'THE ASTECH APPROACH'
TO MOUSE & TOUCHSCREEN TRAINING

' MOUSE SKILLS' SERIES

Version 2 CDs now include Touchscreen verbal cues

Astech Software produces software for children, especially those who are physically disabled and intellectually disabled. As well as our Switch Training series, we also have a 'Mouse Skills' series that teaches disabled and able-bodied children how to use a computer mouse or touchscreen in easy progressive steps.

CDs available:

'Songs and Stories Mouse Skills' for junior children #

'Mouse-about' for junior children

'Fun and Adventures Mouse Skills'
for older children #

# = includes touchscreen verbal cues
What mouse skills are taught?

In 'Songs and Stories Mouse Skills' and 'Fun and Adventures Mouse Skills' the child can choose from five different ways to use the mouse or touchscreen in order to get the action to continue:

1. Clicking the mouse / touching the screen anywhere on the page.
2. Rolling the mouse over a stationary object on the page.
3. Clicking on / touching a stationary object.
4. Clicking on / touching two stationary objects.
5. Clicking on / touching a named object from a choice of two.

These two programs contain the same songs and stories etc. used in the 'Press' series. Once the mouse / touchscreen skills are learned, children should be able to use the CDs independently.

New Program Teaches Dragging
The new Astech program, 'Mouse-about', continues with teaching rolling and clicking skills but also teaches the new skill of using the computer mouse to drag objects around the screen.

This program does not include touchscreen cues.

Who is the Mouse Skills Series suitable for?

'Songs and Stories Mouse Skills' & 'Mouse-about' are particularly suitable for physically and learning disabled children but are also suitable for any pre-school or junior primary school child learning how to use a mouse or touchscreen for the first time.

'Fun and Adventures Mouse Skills' is suitable for middle school children with learning disablities, short attention spans and a difficulty in physically controlling a mouse. Depending on their abilities, some older children may also enjoy the 'Mouse-about' program.

The three Astech Mouse Skills programs are part of 'The Astech Approach' to assistive technology training.

See the Software Page for more information about our unique system of switch and mouse training.

MOUSE ACCESS OF ASTECH SWITCH TRAINING SOFTWARE
Although our switch training software has been specifically designed for switch using children, mouse users can also have fun using the switch titles, independently or alongside the switch user. The songs, stories etc. on the CDs can be accessed and controlled by mouse and switch.

The switch user can therefore have fun interacting with friends, family, teachers and therapists.
